Automatic product feed (XML/CSV) for Pinterest Catalogs: product pins and Shopping ads

Documentation

Pinterest Product Feed β€” Products in Pinterest Catalogs

The Pinterest Product Feed extension exports your store catalog to Pinterest Catalogs (part of Pinterest Business, business.pinterest.com). Based on the catalog, Pinterest creates:

  • product pins β€” pins with current prices, availability, and a link to the product;
  • a product showcase in the Shop section of your profile;
  • Shopping ads and dynamic retargeting based on the catalog.

Pinterest is a platform with high purchasing intent in categories such as home goods, decor, clothing, jewelry, cosmetics, and gifts. Placing an order leads to your store's storefront website.

The extension operates on a feed model without API keys: the platform generates a public product feed in Google Product Feed format (Pinterest accepts this schema) and continuously updates it. You only need to specify the link to the feed in Pinterest Catalogs once.

Step 1. Connecting in Cenaly and feed link

  1. Open the App Store (admin.menio.ru/app-store) and go to the "By location" tab.
  2. Select the required location.
  3. Find the "Pinterest Product Feed" card (Pinterest Catalogs) and click "Connect".
  4. The card will show the feed URL in XML and CSV formats with copy buttons. URL format: https://cdn.menio.ru/feeds/pinterestfeed/{account-id}/{location-id}.xml (and .csv).
  5. Copy the required link.

The feed is compiled from the location catalog (retail mode) and updates automatically upon changes to items, prices, and stock levels. Variations are exported as separate items with a shared item_group_id.

Step 2. Adding the Feed to Pinterest Catalogs

  1. Log in to Pinterest Business (business.pinterest.com) and claim the domain of your storefront website (Pinterest requires domain claiming for catalogs).
  2. Open "Catalogs" in the business tools menu (Ads β†’ Catalogs).
  3. Add a data source β€” feed via URL link.
  4. Specify the file URL β€” paste the feed link from step 1 (XML is recommended), select the country and language/currency.
  5. Save β€” Pinterest will start periodically fetching the feed.

Pinterest will process the feed and create Product Pins; then the catalog undergoes a review process. Once approved, the items become available for advertising and the Shop section.

Menu item names in Pinterest Business may change β€” look for the "Catalogs" section and adding a data source via URL.

Which Format to Choose: XML or CSV

Pinterest accepts both. XML is preferred for variations and multiple images; CSV is convenient for manual content checking.

How Pinterest Fetches the Feed

Pinterest fetches the feed itself on a schedule from the specified URL (usually daily). The platform updates the feed automatically, so the data is always up to date. There is no need to send the feed manually; the recommended update frequency is once a day.

Requirements and Common Issues

  • Domain verification (claim). Pinterest requires domain ownership verification for your showcase website; otherwise, the catalog will not be accepted.
  • Working product links. link must lead to an accessible product page β€” enable the web catalog (the location's showcase website).
  • Photo is required. Without an image_link, the item will be rejected; Pinterest prefers high-quality vertical images.
  • Currency and country. Must match your Pinterest account settings.
  • Moderation. The catalog undergoes review; prohibited categories are rejected.
  • Description and title. Fill in the text fields β€” this affects approval and Pin reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are orders placed inside Pinterest?

No β€” the customer follows the product pin to your store's showcase website and places the order there.

Is it paid?

The extension is paid and enabled per location. The catalog and product pins on Pinterest are free; you pay for advertising in Pinterest Ads.

Do I need to export the feed manually?

No. The platform updates the feed automatically, and Pinterest downloads it on schedule.

Why is the catalog rejected?

Most often, the domain is not verified (claim), photos are missing, links are unavailable (web menu is not enabled), or there is a currency/country mismatch. Claim your domain and check the catalog.

How are product variants exported?

Each variant is a separate item with a shared item_group_id.
